This Olowalu Plantation House Wedding holds a special place in our hearts as shooters. Being here 3 times now, challenges us to push our creativity and par-take in a special and intimate ceremony.
Even though I have officially retired from shooting with Kevin, there is always the glam and emotion of weddings in general that is always a welcome treat to document. And of course, working with Kevin this way was where it all started.
This collection of photos we took not only reflects the breathtaking views of Maui alongside the private beach of the Olowalu Plantation House, but it mirrors our growth as shooters and artists. Upon our arrival to the house, we had already been in Maui for a good 4 days: enjoying the beach, hearing the whales and getting hopelessly lost in it’s hotels.
Suffice to say, these are the days that never feel like working, only living.
Meet Konthea and Mai:
I remember Mai as she kissed both my cheeks, a French-Canadian custom? It was so sweet and took me off guard. I returned the favor and we gushed on engagement rings and wedding planning. Alas, that conversation ended quickly as I’m not very keen on planning.
Konthea was so tall and everything seemed to come easy to him. Capturing that was a breeze. I could tell that these two had a language of their own, like all couples kind of do. I always smile with a sense of security when I see the funny similarities between other couples and Kevin and I.
Their first look took place right on the beach and gentle waves just kissed their feet. As the sun came down we had the pleasure of enjoying some of Maui’s dancers and traditional music. It truly was a work-cation.
The highlight of this venue is always sunset. Kevin practically ran out to the rocky pier, taking the wedding party with him. What he captured in that fleeting sun was really spectacular. The night ended with a small party on the dance floor and some really great candids between this tight group from Canada.
As we said our goodbyes when we finished, we couldn’t help but sigh in a wonderfully satisfied night of good times, great shots and awesome company.
